Fri 21 - Arrived Into Florence
Pisa, Florence

We flew from Stansted in the morning which all went smoothly. We landed near Pisa and took the train straight to Florence. After a bit of a nightmare finding the right bus we finally got to the hotel late in the afternoon. That evening we ventured into the centre and after some indecision picked a great restaurant which served a mighty portion of Bistecca and a fine complement of Chianti! The weather was still hot even into the late evening (30C!) but I guess I shouldn't complain :)

Sat 22 - Sightseeing Around Florence
Florence

We started nice and early fueled by the hotel breakfast. Our aim was to beat the queues for the Duomo and the Bargello... We didn't quite manage that unfortunately :( The view from top of Duomo was awesome which is just as well after 600 steps. It is good to get an aerial view of a place early on I think. After being hassled by street artists we made our way to the Bargello and its queues. The gelato while waiting was heaven-sent! We wandered around for a place to eat and enjoyed a nice Margherita pizza. After that we decided to head for the river, over Ponte Vecchio and into the Pitti Palace which was stunningly ornate. The Boboli gardens were nice for a walk afterwards but we were quickly becoming sunburnt. We headed back to the hotel to get refreshed for the night out. Headed back into centre for another nice meal. Surprisingly we didn't find much in terms of night life, and the bars we did find shut early so we ended up at an Irish Bar - not the done thing I know!

Sun 23 - Day Trip To San Gimignano
San Gimignano

On Sunday we made a day trip to San Gim which apparently has been used for many film sets and it's not hard to see why. It was another scorching day and gelato was as essential as air and water :) It really was a picturesque place and from the top of one of the towers you could really appreciate the landscape of Tuscany. We got the coach back to Florence and stayed in the hotel for food and didn't go far to find a bar afterwards. What we thought would be an earlier night ... well, wasn't!

Mon 24 - More Florence Then Fly Back
Florence, Pisa

Despite the desire for a lie-in, we checked out and made the most of our last few hours in the city. We managed to see the replica of Michaelangelo's David, and the wandered around the Medici Chapel. Before we had to catch our flight we had a chance to see the Leaning tower of Pisa, and perhaps more memorably the cathedral next door to it which was huge and rather stunning. We got back to UK without any problems. All in all a fun trip.
